Is Goodluck Jonathan contesting in 2023?

The 2023 general elections is barely less than 3 years from now, but regardless of the time frame for the next major election in the country, a couple of names have began to emanate from various corners, as to who will fly the flags of their respective parties for the 2023 presidential election.

Such is a norm, which preceeds every general election in the country, as some candidates openly indicate interest to run for certain officies, while others have their names pop up due to speculations making the rounds in the country.

Names such as Bola Tinubu of the Apc, Orji Uzo Kalu of Apc, Peter Obi of Pdp and Atiku Abubakar of Pdp have been among the few names that have popped up, in recent times to contest for the office of the presidency in the 2023 general elections

Regardless, all that could still be labeled as mere speculations, as the major flag bearers of national parties, will be decided during their respective primaries, which will be conducted before the general elections, as to determine their main candidates.

One name that has also popped up of late has been that of former president Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, as a possible candidate for the office of president come 2023.

Dr Goodluck Jonathan ruled for 6 years, and was the immediate past president before current president Muhammadu Buhari took over in 2015.

The fact that Dr Jonathan ruled for only one term in office, makes him eligible to contest for the same office in the forth coming general elections in 2023.

Many have stressed that should Dr Goodluck Jonathan decide to contest once again in 2023, it wouldn't be a bad idea after all as during his regime things were quite stable. Arguments such as, a bag of rice being #8000 during his regime, fuel sold at #87 per liter, a bag of cement being sold for #1500 amongst many reasons, why many feel it wouldn't be a bad idea for him to consider contesting, should he decide to do so.

Should he decide to contest in 2023, i will be looking at 4 running mates which the former president could select from, in other to run for office.

Two major factors will be considered for him choosing a running mate, ethnicity and religion.

Dr Goodluck Jonathan being a Christian, will necessitate that he goes of a Muslim running mate, as those are two of the main religions in the country. As it will thus strike a balance in terms of religious power tussle in the country, also ethnicity, he hails from the south, so picking a running mate probably from the North will also balance the equation.

Which other party he runs for, should he decide to is still yet to be known, either he chooses the Pdp which is his party or he decamps to the Apc, which is still a possibility as in Nigerian politics, anything they say is very much possible.

Thus i will be x-raying two separate candidates for both the Apc, and Pdp which he could pick from to run for president come 2023.

1. Under Apc:

Mallam Nasir el-Rufai:

Current Governor Kaduna state, has also been one name been linked with the forth coming election.

El-Rufai no doubt posses vast knowledge in politics, as he is the current Governor of a state, and was once a minister of the Fct for 4 years, he will be a good running mate option for Johnathan.

Yakubu Dogara:

The 52 year old politician who hails from Bauchi state Nigeria, is a member of the All progressive congress (Apc).

Dogara is young, and posses a vast knowledge in politics as well as he has been a member of the house of representative for his constituency since the year 2007.

He was the speaker of the house of representative of Nigeria, after being elected in June 2015.

2. Under the Pdp:

Rabiu Kwankwaso:

Another strong member of the Pdp, who could as well pose as a formidable running mate option for former president Goodluck Jonathan, is former Kano state Governor Kwankwaso.

Mr Rabiu Kwankwaso is a two time governor of Kano, having governed the state from 1999-2003 and 2011 to 2015. Kwankwaso is a very popular figure in the northern part of the country, and is a current serving senator of his state.

Namadi Sabo:

Also a member of the Pdp, and could still be a good considation as running mate for Goodluck Jonathan in 2023.

Sambo was his vice during his term in office, as they both ruled between 2011-2015. Mr Namadi Sambo was also a one time governor of Kaduna state, between 2007-2010 before he was selected to be the vice of then interim president Dr Goodluck Jonathan.

Which do you think will be a better running mate candidate for Goodluck Jonathan? Please do well to like and follow thanks.
