As the world becomes technologically advanced, there is a rising need to improve the existing electrical gadgets to suit man in their daily endeavors to improve the worth of life with less fatigue.
Most of our changeover system and generator switching is being manually operated in our homes, banks, hospitals etc. This project is designed for power supply applications. It involves automatic switching on/off of the generator between the main power supply and auxiliary power supply (generator). The project implements an automatic switching or starting of the power generator whenever the main power supply fails. The circuit of the project consists of logical control unit and relays switches. The design of the project takes into consideration practical and real life situation.
The construction was based on the principle of contactor, relay and alignment as demonstrated in the relays arrangement. Among other components are relays, indicator light, normally close and normally open switch and the board with which the device is presented at a step by step operation of the project.
This device can find good application in places where there is need for constant power supply e.g. Hotels, Hospitals, Banks, Laboratories, Offices and Homes etc. Its construction is motivated by several factors like low cost, speed, less stress of switching the generator manually, efficiency and the safety when compared to the manual switching operation. It has so many advantages therefore it is worth constructing.
1.1 AIM / SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The aim of this project is to construct an automatic remote generator on/off switch that has relay switch and interlocking of contactor which can switch load from one power supply to another with simplicity. This requires a generator with electric start and automatic choke that has a simple on/off switch. If the switch is on the generator runs, if the switch is off the generator stops.
1.2 SIGNIFICANT OF THE PROJECT
The purpose of this project is to construct an automatic remote generator on/off switch which has a unique switching system that can be used to effect the change from one power supply to another as well as to ensuring consistency in the supply to a particular load.
The uniqueness of this device lies in its ability to maintain constant supply to the main circuit (load) being supplied by compensatory for the time lapse of delay that usually accompanies the manual switching from one source to another.
1.3 DEFINITION OF SOME TERMS
Rectifier is a device that convert and alternating current (a.c) into direct current (d.c) or voltage.

- Transformer: Transformer changes (transforms) an alternating voltage from one value to another.it consists of two coils called the primary and secondary windings, which are not connected electrically for either stepping up or down the alternating current.
- Rectifier: Rectifier for converting this steeping up or down the alternating current or voltage to Direct or voltage.
- Smother filter: for removing any variation or ripples into the direct current output voltage.
- OP-AMP(IC): The Op-amp. Timer NE555V ARGOO – GED-91 stand-by battery charger. The Op-amp. Is basically a differential amplifier having a large voltage gain, very high input impedance and low output impedance op-amp has inverting (-) and non- inverting (+) input and signal output. The op-amp is usually powered by dual polarity supply in the range +1-15v used to configure the inverting and non-inverting mode.
